EDLD 5364 Teaching with Technology
Week 2 Assignment 1
Jo Elda Cadena
I think this week was all about exploring the types of assistive technologies for learners of all backgrounds and abilities. "Generally, computer-assisted instruction, simulations, software that requires high-order thinking, collaborative networked technologies, and design and programming technologies tend to enhance and improve student learning when effectively utilized with students." Mason (2009). How to use data collection tools, ways to use technology with students and Pitler's and Schacter's suggestions for integrating rubrics, blogs, e-mail and websites are all effective and studied methods of enhancing student learning.
The CAST website offered eye-opening information on the Universal Design for Learning which offers three guiding principles designed to meet the needs of diverse learners. The organization exists to help support educators in their quest to cultivate a learner-centered, brain-based, technology classroom.
Finally, the next step of our scenario-based Google group collaboration sets the tone for a possible solution set to the case given in the assignment. I look forward to this collaboration as it always brings something new to the table. It also helps tremendously that I enjoy the company of my group-mates. :) Go Pecker Techies!
